Battery measurement principle


Due to the complexity of the electrochemical reaction of batteries, as well as the differences in various materials, structures, manufacturing processes and use environments, the characteristics of batteries from different manufacturers are quite different. Even batteries produced by the same manufacturer will have certain characteristics of their monomers. The discreteness. So far, there is no simple and effective method in the world that can quickly and accurately determine the battery performance. The detection and failure prediction of battery performance is still a very complicated electrochemical measurement problem.

Fixed acid-isolated explosion-proof lead-acid batteries that have been widely used in power, communications, finance, transportation and other industries can understand the battery status by measuring terminal voltage, checking electrolyte density, liquid level, and temperature. However, the sealed and lean-liquid design of valve-regulated lead-acid batteries makes it difficult for us to grasp its health status. The detection and maintenance methods for acid-isolated and explosion-proof batteries are no longer suitable for valve-regulated batteries. This is the current battery operation management The shortcomings and difficulties.

At present, the commonly used detection methods are to measure the terminal voltage of the battery at ordinary times and to conduct a check discharge capacity test every year. We believe that:

1. There is no corresponding relationship between the terminal voltage and the capacity of the battery in the floating state.

We know that even a battery with poor performance may measure a qualified voltage in a floating charge state. Therefore, the terminal voltage in the floating charge state cannot truly reflect the battery performance.

2. The full capacity discharge test is still the most accurate and effective method to test the actual capacity of the battery pack.

We know that the capacity of a battery pack is equal to the capacity of the battery with the worst performance in the battery pack. Therefore, the detection of the battery pack can be transformed into the detection of the backward battery, and the capacity of the battery pack can be obtained by finding the backward battery and measuring the capacity of the battery.

Discharge the battery pack with a prescribed constant current, and monitor the voltage of each battery at the same time. When the voltage of any one of the batteries drops to the end voltage, the discharged capacity is the actual capacity of the battery pack.
