What is the difference between solar photovoltaic cables and ordinary cables?
Date: 2022/11/12Read: 42

1. Differences in use requirements:

1) The rated voltage is different

Photovoltaic cable: 600/100V or the new standard 1000/1500V;

Ordinary cable: 300/500V or 450/750V or 600/1000V (YJV/VV series)

2) Different adaptability to the environment

Photovoltaic cable:

●Corrosion resistance: The conductor is made of tinned soft copper wire, which has good corrosion resistance.

●Cold resistance: The insulation is made of cold-resistant, low-smoke, halogen-free materials, cold-resistant to -40°C, and has good cold resistance.

●High-temperature resistance: The sheath is made of high temperature, low smoke and halogen-free materials, with a temperature resistance grade of up to 120°C and excellent high temperature resistance.

●Other properties: After being irradiated, the insulating sheath of photovoltaic cables has the characteristics of anti-ultraviolet radiation, oil resistance and long service life.

Ordinary cable:

It is generally used for indoor laying, buried pipe and electrical equipment connection, etc. It has a certain temperature and oil resistance, but cannot be exposed outdoors and in harsh environments. The service life is generally based on the actual situation, and there are no special requirements.

2. The difference between raw materials and processing technology

1) The raw materials are different

Photovoltaic cable:

Conductor: Tinned copper wire conductor.

Because a dense oxide film will be formed on the surface of tin to prevent the continuous oxidation of tin, tin is very stable in the air at room temperature. Therefore, the copper surface is tinned, the first does not affect the resistance, and the second can improve the oxidation resistance of copper to a certain extent.

Insulation: Cross-linked polyolefin insulation.

Sheath: Cross-linked polyolefin insulation.

The cross-linked polyolefin insulation has high heat resistance and mechanical properties, no longer melts after being heated, and maintains excellent electrical properties.

Ordinary cable:

Conductor: Copper conductor. Compared with tinned copper wire conductors, the electrical conductivity, corrosion resistance and oxidation resistance are slightly worse.

Insulation: PVC or polyethylene insulation.

Sheath: PVC sheath

In the macromolecular structure of PVC, there are unstable structures such as head-to-head structure, branched chain, double bond, allyl chloride, tertiary chlorine, etc., which make thermal deformation and aging resistance poor.

3. Different processing techniques

Photovoltaic cable: the outer skin is cross-linked and irradiated

Ordinary cables: generally do not undergo cross-linking irradiation, YJV/YJY series power cables will be cross-linked

4. Authentication is different

Photovoltaic cables generally require TUV certification, while ordinary cables generally require CCC certification or only require a production license.
