How to correctly choose the thermal relay for three-phase asynchronous motor protection?
There are many types of thermal relays. According to the different reset methods, there are automatic reset type and manual reset type. According to the number of poles, thermal relays can be divided into single-pole, two-pole and three-pole, as well as three-pole phase loss protection and no phase loss protection. Next, Xi’an Sima Motor Technology Department tells everyone how to choose a thermal relay for a three-phase asynchronous motor?
Selection
The three-pole thermal relay can be used as overload and phase failure protection for three-phase asynchronous motors. If the motor stator winding is "star connection", a general three-pole thermal relay can be used. Due to the "star connection" motor, the phase current is equal to the supply current. Regardless of whether the motor is running under overload or phase failure, the thermal element in the main circuit in series will cause the thermal relay contacts to operate due to excessive current to protect the motor; when the motor stator windings are "delta connected", it is usually necessary to use Thermal relay with open phase protection. Due to the "delta connection" motor, if the connecting cable has a phase break (usually the fuse is blown) and lacks phase, the line current is equivalent to 1.5 times the motor phase current, which is no longer the number 3. Due to the multiplication relationship, the power supply current cannot accurately reflect the phase current, that is, the heating element connected in the main circuit cannot accurately reflect whether the motor winding is actually overloaded. If you choose a thermal relay without phase protection at this time, it will not be very good. The soil plays a protective role.
In view of the prevalence of unbalanced three-phase voltages in rural areas, "star-connected" three-phase asynchronous motors use ordinary three-pole thermal relays, and "delta-connected" motors use thermal relays with phase failure protection.
