Calculation of connected capacitor size and withstand voltage

The calculation of the capacitor size is determined in this way, when the motor winding is star connection, the capacity of the capacitor used is C=(800~1600)XI/U. Here I is the rated current value of the three-phase motor, and U is the voltage on the motor windings, generally 220V. For example, for a motor with a rated power of 1KW, the winding current should be 2.5A. If it is changed to single-phase operation, the single-phase voltage should be 220V, then the connected capacitor should be: C=(800~1600)X2.5/ 220=9.1μF~18.2μF, so we can choose a 12μF capacitor.


Estimation of withstand voltage

For the connected capacitor, its withstand voltage value can be obtained by an empirical formula: UC=1.6U, so the voltage value of the above-mentioned distribution is UC=1.6X220=352V. According to the principle of choosing large and not small, the withstand voltage value of the capacitor can be selected as 400V.
