  • What is a globe valve?
A brass globe valve is an example of a rotary type valve. It’s typically used in place of the more traditional gate valves when there are two or more positions, but it can also be found in single position applications. Globe valves are non-rising stem valves that allow fluid to flow through them by rotating their axis. Globe valves come in various sizes and materials like bronze, cast iron, nickel-plated steel, and stainless steel. They’re available with both male (threaded), and female (slip) ends for use with either pipe or tubing connections. The brass globe valve shown here is a three-way type with two inlets and one outlet. It has an internal mechanism that can be switched between the two inlets or the outlet by rotating the valve stem. When rotated to one side, the fluid flow is blocked and diverted to the other side. Globe valves are often used as selector valves to control multiple fluid flows into or out of a system. They’re also commonly used as throttle valves to regulate flow through a pipe. When you have two or more valves mounted next to each other with their stems pointing in different directions, they’re referred to as being “back-to-back.” These valves are used for applications where both fluid flows need to be isolated from each other at some point during operation. In this case, there would be an additional mechanical linkage connecting them to allow them all to move simultaneously between positions. If you’ve ever seen water faucets installed back-to-back so that either hot or cold water could be turned on, then you’ve seen a basic example of this type of valve in action.

    Brass Globe Valve Uses:

-Selector valves for controlling multiple flows of fluid into or out of a system

-Throttle valves to regulate the amount of flow through a pipe

-Back-to-back valves for applications where both fluid flows need to be isolated from each other at some points during operation.

    What are the benefits?

The brass globe valve offers many benefits over traditional gate valves, which include:

-Able to withstand higher pressures and temperatures than gate valves

-Smooth operation with little friction or noise

    -Nontoxic and corrosion resistant

    How does it work?

-When pressure is applied to the upper part of the valve stem, it pushes down on a disk located inside the valve. This disk rests on top of a cone-shaped washer that’s seated on top of a stem. The cone is angled to force the valve to rotate in one direction when pressure is applied and then stops rotation in its tracks once it reaches a predetermined point.

-Two or more valves can be mounted back-to-back with their stems pointing in different directions for applications where both fluids flow need to be isolated from each other at some points during operation. In this case, there would be an additional mechanical linkage connecting them to allow them all to move simultaneously between positions.
