Ultrasonic sealing technology is one possibility that enables manufacturers to reduce both costs and product waste while providing strong product protection. Reduced energy consumption, material savings and increased equipment availability allow manufacturers to produce more sustainably and profitable. In comparison to other sealing methods used to date, such as hot and cold sealing, ultrasonic technology represents an attractive alternative.
What's ultrasonic sealing?
Ultrasonic sealing similar to ultrasonic welding. High frequency vibration takes the melting is only generated in the thermoplastic sealing layer. In order to convert the vibration locally into frictional heat, the anvil and the horn are mostly radial or linear profiles with small platform shapes. This profile enables the energy to be directed into focus, making the sealing time shorter, from only 100ms to 200ms. When ultrasonically sealed, heat is generated inside the film, rather than being introduced from the outside when heat sealed. The mold, the welding head and the anvil, which are in direct contact with the packaging material, maintain a normal temperature during the welding process. The support layer is also kept at a normal temperature. After the energy input is completed, the thermal energy can be smoothly transmitted outward due to the temperature difference between the support layer and the sealing layer - the strength of the weld is significantly higher.
