Electrical performance requirements of motor insulation materials
Insulation resistivity
Under the action of voltage, the insulating material will always have a tiny leakage current through it. Part of this current flows through the inside of the material; part of it flows through the surface of the material. Therefore, the insulation resistivity can be divided into volume resistivity and surface resistivity. The volume resistivity characterizes the internal electrical conductivity of the material, and the unit is ohm·meter; the surface resistivity characterizes the electrical conductivity of the surface of the material, and the unit is ohm. The volume resistivity of insulating materials is usually in the range of 107 to 1019 m·m. The resistivity of insulating materials is generally related to the following factors.
As the temperature increases, the resistivity decreases exponentially.
Water can promote the dissociation of polar molecules, so the insulation resistivity decreases with the increase of humidity, and it is more sensitive to the influence of porous materials (such as insulating paper). Hydrophilic substances such as polar materials tend to form a continuous water layer on the surface to reduce surface resistance; non-polar materials such as ceramics and polytetrafluoroethylene are not easy to form a continuous water layer on the surface, so their surface resistance is less affected.
Most of the impurities in the insulating material produce conductive ions, which can also promote the dissociation of polar molecules, which makes the resistivity drop rapidly.
Under the action of high electric field strength, the migration force of ions increases, thus reducing the resistivity.
