"Macao International Environmental Cooperation and Development Forum and Exhibition 2022" (2022MIECF) for the first time uses carbon footprint calculator, carbon emission data calculation, carbon trading and carbon footprint offset, etc., to encourage the exhibition industry to gradually establish a carbon emission management mechanism, promote the transformation of key industries to green and low-carbon, and serve as a model reference for the green development of Macao. In conjunction with the Guidelines on Waste Reduction and Waste Classification for Conference and Exhibition Activities, we will jointly build a green and low-carbon Macao.
The purchase of carbon credits will implement net zero carbon emissions of the exhibition
2022MIECF uses carbon footprint calculator for the first time and conducts carbon inventory to predict the carbon emissions generated by the exhibition. Through carbon trading activities, MIECF will purchase the carbon credits of mainland wind power projects that have obtained the international certified Emission reduction Standard (VCS), which will be used to invest in carbon reduction business and carry out comprehensive carbon offsetting for the exhibition. And by Guangzhou Carbon Emission Trading Center for "carbon neutral" certification, the implementation of the exhibition net zero carbon emissions.
Internationally Certified Emission Reduction Standards (VCS), which allow certified projects to convert their greenhouse gas (GHG) reductions and removals into tradeable carbon credits. Since its launch in 2006, it has grown into the world's largest and most influential voluntary GHG program, with nearly 1,600 registered projects in 82 countries and regions worldwide, generating more than 450 million tons of carbon credits.
The carbon emission calculation is certified by the authority
The carbon emission estimates for this year's MIECF were specifically cross-checked by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment's Carbon Neutral Implementation Guidelines for Large-scale Events (Trial) issued in 2019 and the Exhibition and Event Carbon Emission Calculator jointly developed by Hong Kong and Macao.
Government continues to promote waste Reduction at Source
To implement the "dual carbon target" and continue to promote "waste reduction at source", the Government has implemented various measures to reduce plastic bags in a sequential manner, such as the "Restriction on the Supply of Plastic Bags" law; The control measures for disposable foam tableware, non-degradable disposable plastic drinking straws and beverage stirring rods, non-degradable disposable plastic knives, forks, spoons and so on have been formulated. 2022MIECF will set up a "Green tableware Exhibition area" to display various types of green tableware for information and purchase. This will enhance the awareness of the community and promote the industry to shoulder the corporate responsibility to further implement the "waste reduction at source".
2022MIECF will be held from December 9 to 11
The 2022MIECF, organized by the Macao Special Administrative Region Government, will be held at the Venetian Macao Golden Exhibition from December 9 to 11, with the theme of "Joint Efforts for Green Development towards dual-carbon Goals".
